The One Snack No Lubbock Game-Day Party Can Live Without
There is no big-game bash in Lubbock without one very specific, very Hub-City staple. Sure, everyone has their own “must-haves.” Pizza is undefeated, always a crowd-pleaser, and as universal as cheering against the refs. Plenty of folks fire up the grill for a brisket, a rack of jalapeño poppers, or a mess of wings—especially if they don’t mind turning their backyard into a temporary smokehouse. And yes, chicken wings are a classic…but unless you’re ordering in, they are a hassle and a half.
But absolutely nothing—nothing—is more universal, more expected, more Lubbock-built than chips and dip. And I know, I know…I hate calling salsa “dip,” too, but functionally that’s what we’re talking about here. It’s the foundation of every snack table in the 806. You can bring potato chips, Fritos, maybe even walk on the wild side with some Takis, but even if you grab all of those, the picture is still incomplete until you add the crown jewel: a big, unmistakable bag of United Supermarkets Tortilla Chips.
Why United Tortilla Chips Are the Real MVP of Game Day
This isn’t an ad for United. It’s just a Lubbock truth. I have never been to a gathering—birthday, watch party, tailgate, random Tuesday—where one of those oversized bags wasn’t sitting proudly on the table. They’re inexpensive (still $5 for a huge bag), they go with literally everything, and they absolutely slap straight out of the bag.
Why do they work so well? First, a real chip connoisseur knows you pick each chip by how much seasoning and texture you can see. Second, United dialed in the thickness perfectly. They’re sturdy enough to bulldoze through seven-layer dip without snapping in half, but not so thick that they lose that perfect, classic crunch. They are, quite simply, engineered for greatness.
I don’t know what your plans are this Sunday, but if your snack table doesn’t include one of those giant United bags, I’m sorry—you’re not doing game day right.
