Elderly Odessa Man Allegedly Robs Pharmacy at Gunpoint, Demands Opioid Pills
Odessa Police arrested a 68-year-old man for aggravated robbery after he was charged with stealing prescription medication from a pharmacy at gunpoint.
Pharmacy Robbery in Odessa
On May 12, Odessa Police Department (OPD) received a call of aggravated robbery at the United Supermarkets on 2751 North County Road West.
When officers arrived, witnesses stated that an elderly man wearing a black hat, gloves, and a face mask had robbed the pharmacy. The man, later identified as Wesley Mark Bingham, 68, allegedly waited at a service window before quietly informing the employee that he had a gun.
Bingham was reported to have ordered the victim to open a safe, demanding hydrocodone pills and fentanyl patches, according to News West 9. He also confiscated witnesses' phones at this time to avoid anyone calling the cops.
When Bingham finally got the prescription drugs, he walked out of the building with what witnesses noted was a limp and a hunched back. Video surveillance captured an SUV parked in the nearby alleyway that reversed and left the scene right after the robbery.
The SUV was registered to Wesley's mother, Jeannie Bingham, 91, who passed away earlier this year.
The next day, investigators located Bingham standing outside of his residence wearing the same shoes that witnesses described were on the suspect during the robbery. He was also seen walking with a limp and a hunched back, further fitting the descriptions.
A Prior Robbery in Odessa
Bingham may also match an earlier robbery back in March where an elderly man wearing camouflage entered a CVS Pharmacy in West Odessa and held employees up with a handgun. This suspect also demanded hydrocodone pills as well as oxycodone before exiting the store with a noticeable limp and hunched back.
On May 14, Wesley Bingham was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated robbery. He is currently being held in jail on a combined $100,000 bond.
